xc ATOMIC CITY WILL BE THE HOTTEST PLACE TO BE IN SEPTEMBER WHEN THE EQ IMCA Wild West Modified Tour ROLLS INTO TOWN!

Aug.27.2010
The 2010 season of the EQ IMCA Wild West Modified Tour will wind down on September 17 & 18 at the Atomic Motor Raceway in Atomic City, Idaho. In years past, our champion had pretty much been decided heading into the finale, but, this year, there are four drivers that can capture the title.

Defending EQ IMCA Wild West Modified Tour champion, Justen Yeager of Green River, Wyoming is the current points leader. Consistency has got him the lead with a worst finish of sixth. He ended his WWMT winless streak at the Fairgrounds Speedway in Cortez, Colorado late in the year.

Yeager only holds the lead by two points over series standout, Zane DeVilbiss of Farmington, New Mexico. Zane holds three EQ IMCA Wild West Modified Tour feature wins so far this season, He won the opener at the Idaho Falls Raceway in May and he swept the Price, Utah races in June.

Only eight points out is the Las Vegas hot-shoe, Ryan Cotrell. He took his Roland Kent Motorsports ride to victory lane on four different occasions this season. His first win of the year came at the Battle Mountain Raceway in Battle Mountain, Nevada in June. He then swept the weekend in Rock Springs, Wyoming in July and he also took the victory in Cortez, Colorado in August.

Fifty-five points out is the sleeper, Michael Hale of West Valley City, Utah. Even though the chances of Hale taking the title is very slim, mathematically he can do it. Hale made the change from racing pavement to dirt in 2010. Michael’s best finish was second at the Sweetwater Speedway in Rock Springs, Wyoming in July. It will not be a surprise if Hale gets his first WWMT victory in Atomic.

With them four drivers battling for the championship, and the top fifteen in the standings being locked into the 2010 WWMT Top 20 Showdown, seventy-four points separate fifth through fifteenth in the standings. Them ten drivers will go head to head with each other to be in the top five in the standings.

Travis Metz of Blackfoot, Idaho currently holds the fifth spot and has a victory at Idaho Falls earlier this season under his belt. Metz is also locked into the Top 20 Showdown for the first time in his career. He has been twenty-first in the standings on two different occasions. He is also one the drivers to watch at the Atomic speed-plant.

2009 Summit Raceway champion, Wade Taylor of Spring Creek, Nevada sits in the sixth spot, and behind him is two former IMCA Regional Rookie of the Year title holders Brian Ungaro of
Green River, Wyoming and Chase Hansen of Myton, Utah.

Rounding out the current top ten in points is Roland Kent Motorsports driver Joe Kent of Las Vegas, Nevada and “The Traveler” Jake Holland of Calpine, California who has made it to all the WWMT races after coming from his home in California.

And also locked into the 2010 WWMT Top 20 Showdown is Kelly Shaw of Idaho Falls, Idaho in eleventh, Richard Anderson of Shelley, Idaho in twelfth, Nick Nelson of Los Lunas, New Mexico making his first appearance in the showdown in thirteenth, Don Baisch of Rigby, Idaho who has never missed being out of the showdown since its beginning in 2007sits in fourteenth, and in fifteenth of Dove Creek, Colorado is Aaron Spangler.

With the top fifteen being locked into the showdown, There is five other drivers on the bubble that sit sixteenth thru twentieth that can fall out of the prestigious event that will be held at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nevada in November during the IMCA Duel in the Desert.

Currently in sixteenth is Jake Donnelly of Rigby, Idaho, behind him is Jeff Cooper of Riverton, Wyoming, Ron Moser of West Valley City, Utah, Jason Donnelly of Rigby, Idaho, and on the hot seat is David C. Penrod of Chubbuck, Idaho.

Sitting outside the top twenty in twenty first is IMCA Rookie of the Year contender and WWMT Rookie, Wyatt Howard of Price, Utah. Howard is currently four points out of being into the Top 20 Showdown.

Two drivers that sit out of the twenty and have never missed a Top 20 Showdown since 2007 is Mickey Stubbings of Helper, Utah and last years Top 20 Showdown winner and two-time WWMT champion Ricky Alvarado. Stubbings is eight points out and Alvarado sits fifteen out in twenty third.

Also in contention is Zach Hensley of Green River, Wyoming and Rick Spangler of Grand Junction, Colorado. Zach is currently twenty-seven out and Spangler is twenty eight out.

Drivers that sit sixteenth through thirty-ninth can be in the 2010 WWMT Top 20 Showdown. From twenty-sixth to thirty-ninth is Janette Moncur, Bert Beech, Mark Rodgers, Chase Ruble, Richard Mueller, Craig Russom, Porter Smith, Troy Sweeten III., Dusty Safley, Trevor Arnold, Christian Johnson, Chris Clark, Dan Fitzgerald, and Jerry Harpole Jr.
